Galaxy of Stars lifts up the accomplishments of individuals with disabilities and the community champions who support their journey to career success. Please consider nominating a worthy recipient for their outstanding achievements and commitment to the Tommy Nobis Center mission of empowering people through employment.
Winners will be recognized during the Galaxy luncheon at the Georgia Aquarium on April 26, 2019. If your nominee is chosen as a winner, you will have the opportunity to accompany them to the 2019 Galaxy of Stars Luncheon.
Honoree Nomination Categories
Tommy Nobis Rising Star Award:
This award honors an individual who was hired recently (within the past 1 to 2 years) and is considered a successful mission placement.
The honoree demonstrates outstanding personal and career achievements since participating in the job training program offered through Tommy Nobis Center.
The honoree demonstrates the ability to set goals and achieve them while also learning job readiness skills.
This award honors a person who strives to break down barriers in order to build a path to employment and self-sufficiency.
This award honors a person who has had a remarkable journey to independence and serves as an example to others.
Family Member Advocate of the Year:
This award honors a family member of an individual with disabilities with a fierce dedication to advocating for their loved one.
The honoree is adamantly devoted to helping their loved one gain independence through personal growth and employment success.
The honoree publicly supports and promotes awareness for individuals with disabilities and their ability to achieve meaningful employment.
The honoree instills independence and responsibility in their loved one in order to promote self-autonomy.
This award honors a person who has unyielding support for their family member and displays this support through their actions daily.
Community Champion Award:
This award honors a business, organization, or individual that has acted as a change agent in removing barriers, whether they are of cultural, policy, or financial significance for individuals with disabilities.
This could be one of our community partners (i.e. WellStar, Owens and Minor, Kroger, or Asbury), government contracts, or any company/organization that has shown outstanding support.
The award recipient recognizes and values the skills and talents of all individuals regardless of disabilities or barriers.
The honoree campaigns for the needs and rights of individuals with disabilities.
The honoree is a community champion and believes that all people deserve an opportunity for employment.
Lifetime Achievement Award:
This award recognizes an individual who has performed outstanding services and accomplishments spanning his/her career.
The honoree is a community hero for individuals with disabilities or barriers.
The honoree takes initiative and demonstrates leadership and empowerment in the workplace and daily actions.
The honoree gives back to the community. This could be through volunteering, donating, hiring, or any action that positively impacts individuals with disabilities.
